Animal Farm
April 17th, 2008 by ksoeunp11 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Unlike many of my classmates, I never read this book before and I would have probably found this book pointless if I had read it as a 6th grader. However, as I learned more about “The Broken World” in world history class, I soon came to realize the bigger picture. Stalin, Trotsky, Lenin- each of these three leaders attempted to revolutionize Russia according to the Communist Manifesto. In the book Animal Farm, Stalin, Trotsky and Lenin were all embodied as an animal. Orwell wrote this book as an allegory, representing each of the accomplishments of the three prominent communists. Orwell distinguished each of the characters motives into what would happen in an actual farm if animals could really interact with one another. After connecting all the events from Animal Farm to the revolution itself, it was evident which character was who and which event led to what.
I honestly hate books, and would love to see all of them burn. Although.. Animal Farm was a bit more interesting, considering one of the books I was forced to read was Ulysses which i had absolutely no interest in. The book would have not been unique if it was not an allegory. Because this book was written in relation to the Russian Revolution, it was easier to understand why he wrote what he did! This book actually helped me understand and analyze the revolution in more depth. Thankfully it was short book, but if it was longer, it would have definitely gone in the “love to see all of them burn” section.
The Superbowl Doesn’t Even Exist Here

The Superbowl XLII held in Arizonewas AMAZING. No, the word “amazing” isn’t good enough to describe how exciting it was. I wasn’t surprised at all the the Patriots were the team to beat. They’ve always been one of the teams I assume they will continue to hold their rankings high. But the Giants are one of my favorite teams and they too play a game that will keep you at the edge of your chair.
VS.
THE PATRIOTS THE GIANTS
Of course, I got up early to watch the game, but in Korea, I noticed that absolutely no one cares about the superbowl. Wow. What a surprise. There I was, after setting my alarm clock on, waking up early, screaming everytime a team was in a red zone, but for what? No one talks about the Superbowl. In Canada, the place I used to live in, I used to always watch the superbowl at a party my friends threw or some sort of get together, but since the game startd at 8:30 in Korea, I thought maybe it was too early in the day to have a party sort of thing. But no, no one even knew who the Giants were, let alone the Patriots who had been undefeated until the superbowl.
It’s like the Superbowl doesn’t exsist here…
Too complicated.

Personally, I hate drama. For girls, everything can be turned into something big, it just takes one wicked girl to do it. These past few days, weeks even; there has been a lot of “drama”. I mean… sure everyone fights, talk behind each other’s backs, but honestly why does it matter. If you say one wrong thing, you can be the school loser for about a whole month. When I think about it, boys don’t fight about really anything except maybe sports. Girls I guess are a bit too sensitive. I myself am too sensitive. It just becomes a habit being mean to each other. Especially when a girl hears a friend’s betrayal, the situation gets messy. When a girl is jealous, when a girl is offended, hurt, or just wants revenge, things go downhill. All girls’ want is the truth? But once in a while we wait for something to happen because life gets boring sometimes. We know when something is wrong or who to stand up for. We know when to pick our fights, and when to back down. We know who our friends our, but then again, we don’t know for sure. So, we watch out for whom we trust. Then somehow “drama” happens. The best thing I learned is to just let it go, even if whatever happened not your fault because girls are too complicated to understand and who knows what will happen if you fight back.

The Start for an Anxious Swimmer
January 27th, 2008 by ksoeunp11 · 5 Comments · Life In The Water
Swim season is coming up soon!! I am anxious and scared a the same time. I am so anxious for the swim meets, but at the same time scared because everyone expects so much out of me. Many people think that I am the best girl swimmer in KAIAC, but honestly, it’s just that our school team is tiny with barely 30 people on the team and not a lot of people have had experience with competitive swimming like me. I am also nervous about the practices because what if I don’t get 33 seconds for my 50 free? What if someone beats my swimming record? What if someone else becomes captain? What if I am not the best in the school anymore? I haven’t been swimming well these days. I actually haven’t swum for over 2 weeks. I know so many people who swim 4 times a week, which makes me jealous, but I don’t have the right to be because I am not committed to swimming when it isn’t the season yet. It might make so sense at all if you know me because I am a competitive gal and you’d think I’d be serious about it all-year long! I am just waiting for it to hit me. Waiting for someone to say, “Susan, I cant believe your not the best anymore” because swimming is the only thing that makes me feel proud of myself and I wouldn’t want to lose it.
